IPO has provided an excellent after-hours service for IIP, with most reports being faxed back to departments within 30-60 mins. It is also great for the ED clinicians to be able to call through and discuss cases with radiologists, if they need to. The reliability of the IT interface and the support of specialist QA staff also help to make IPO's service a seamless and efficient one.

The Radiology Department at The Royal Melbourne Hospital has strategically partnered with IPO since May 2008. This valued partnership continues to provide a very effective and flexible way to balance reporting workload with variations in staffing levels. It is also used for the reporting of urgent after hours C-spine clearance cases when senior doctors are not available. There is no doubt that the partnership has successfully achieved the objective of improving patient outcomes by reducing report turn-around times. The IPO service model has also proven to be invaluable for providing a cost effective low risk incremental approach to expanding our imaging services.

IPO has been a great help over the past few years, especially when St Vincent’s Hospital has needed help with managing increased workloads. Having completed reports download directly back into our RIS has also been particularly helpful. Since going live with the Victorian Government PACS Project in 2007 IPO services have been a life saver for Barwon Health. We have have been about 3 EFT radiologists down and without IPO we could not have coped with the volume of reports. The after hours CT reporting is particularly good with all reports appearing within 1 hour. The added benefit for our radiologists is that they are not on call 7 nights per week and not being burnt out.

Urgent cases have contracted turnaround time of one hour. This turnaround time is usually 20-30 minutes. Referrers are very happy to have a written report in this time frame. Communication with the whole team has been excellent. I get a real sense that IPO are passionate about developing a service which is always a step ahead of competitors and a service which has quality as its central focus.

IPO has been instrumental in helping IINE to ensure that turnaround times are met, especially during periods of manpower shortages or increased workload. The flexibility IPO offers in terms of coverage has been great. It is also reassuring to have IPO working through the weekend, and having the confidence in knowing that the after-hours urgent service will be prompt and reliable.
